Exclusive Interview With Pamela Puja Kirpalani

“There is so much to be gained by understanding how to taper and connect with others using body language- of which we are evolutionarily primed to do in order to empathise and establish credibility with others..”

1) What’s Inner High Living All About ? If you can brief us about your venture ?

Inner High Living is an NLP Focused Training & Coaching Facility founded in 2014 rooted on the vision of bringing humans to their full potential. The well-renowned Company offers a unique mix of Interpersonal Communication Skills and Body Language Training towards organisations and government institutions that need improvement in rapport building. Inner High Living is primarily based out of Singapore but has customers that span from South East Asia to across the globe.

2) Whats your inspiration behind venturing out in this field ?

As a child, I was always intrigued by what really made people’s minds tick and enabled one to connect with others easily. Having grown up in five countries made this all the more enthralling. Having been exposed to so many different cultures, educational environments and diverse languages- I instantly wanted to learn how to connect better with others. Perhaps it was borne out of a survival instinct of needing to ‘belong’- but it sure did work in my favour. Because I am so obsessed with this field, you will find me tracking cutting-edge neuroscience trends and the latest psychology journals in my free time.   3) What Kind Of Workshops You Undertake In your programs ?   I undertake a number of Interpersonal Communication & Persuasion based workshops, but my most popular and sought after ones are “The Secrets to Body Language in Business”, “Networking Like A Pro: 3 Immediate Tips for Powerful & Meaningful Connections”, and “What Makes A Winning Team”. IN addition to these, I also conduct workshops on active listening skills, negotiation skills and creating an impact on first impressions.

4) What’s Your Idea Of Self Motivation & Confidence Building For women ?

Women nowadays are becoming much more empowered- feeling more motivated and confident to take on their passions and bring their unique skills into the workforce. But since being self-motivated and confident come from a strong sense of self-esteem, women must ensure they take good care of themselves spiritually, emotionally and physically. Having a strong sense of self-esteem is critical in order to survive in a world where women have so many duties and obligations to handle.

5) What do you suggest for body language and how does it matter in day Today life ?

Today, understanding how to use and read body language matters most than ever because the millennial generation is at the risk of running a huge face-to-face communication skill deficit. Tell me what you see when you walk into a café, a doctor’s office, a subway or any public place. You will see heads perched facing downwards, perpetually looking down at a screen or vigorously skimming through social media channels. In a world which now places so much value on getting things done without meeting others, we are losing out on our most primitive and social skill- connecting with others. There is so much to be gained by understanding how to taper and connect with others using body language- of which we are evolutionarily primed to do in order to empathise and establish credibility with others. If we miss out on this, we are losing out on one of our most basic desires- ‘to belong’. And there begins the trend of isolation and depression, so rampant in our societies today.

6) Your 5 points for having More Impactful conversation in public speaking opportunities ?

While speaking in public, there are five musts one must pay attention to in order to create an impact. Firstly, having an open body stance signifies that you are receptive to the audience and are feeling confident about the topic you are speaking about. Next, using hand gestures signifies you are passionate and well-versed. One of the best gestures to use when making an important point is called the ‘precision thumb gesture’- it is a good idea to use this from time to time in order to have your point taken seriously. Next, smile! When you smile, you activate other peoples’ mirror neurons to empathise and connect with you quickly. Another golden rule is to speak at a relatively slow pace. Studies have shown that speaking fast makes you seem erratic and hence you lose credibility in the eyes of others. Last but not least, always make the other person or audience feel valued. You can do this by asking them questions about themselves and by letting them do the majority of the talking. If you become a master of this, they will walk away thinking you are the most interesting person they have met.

7) Your Message to our readers !

Even if you are introverted in nature, take every opportunity you can to engage and connect with others. It is so important for our longevity and mental health, and the more we look down at our screens- the more damage we are inflicting on our most primitive need- ‘to belong’. So go out there- network, meet with family, laugh with your children, go for walks with your friends, attend conferences, travel in groups, and engage in social work. Your older and wiser self will thank you for it!
