CWG 2022: Ended with the Roar of women winners! A real celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav.

After a long time out of the spotlight, India’s women’s field hockey team returned to the Commonwealth Games stage in Birmingham, England on August 7, 2022. 

On one hand, there were some amazing events during the Commonwealth Games. There were three gold medals in boxing, an unprecedented feat for India; and the unusual sight of Indian athletes almost pulling off a historic sweep of medals in the triple jump.

India’s participation in the Commonwealth Games has been an outstanding success since its inception on July 28, 2022. Some people have achieved success, while others are on their path towards greatness.

The Commonwealth Games 2022 began with an opening ceremony on Sunday, 28 July, and ended with a closing ceremony on Friday, 08 August, which is exactly two days later. Because the start date was set on July 28, but the actual games didn’t start until July 29, 2022, the Olympics were delayed by one day.

A total of 72 nations, including India, participated at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Britain. It was an exciting event featuring 20 different sports, including ice hockey, cricket, boxing, and badminton, among others.

India has won over 500 medals at the Commonwealth Games since its first appearance in 1930. It has won 161 gold medals so far. They were their best when they participated at the 2010 Commonwealth Games held in Delhi, India. They had 121 medals at the CWG 2010 Games and were second in the overall medal tally behind China. As India prepares for its next Commonwealth Games, which takes place from October 4th to 14th, here’s a look at some of the medals our Indian women won so far in the ongoing competition.

Women in CWG 2022 have been an integral part.

India’s Tejaswi Shankar became the first female Indian athlete to win a gold at the Commonwealth Games when she won the women’s high jump competition at the Gold Coast 2018 games. Earlier she won a silver medal at Glasgow Games. Saurav Ghosal and Tulika Mann secured their maiden medals for India in the squash singles events respectively.

After winning the first gold medal in lawn bowls, India won another gold medal in table tennis at the Commonwealth Games 2022, which was held in Birmingham, UK.

On August 2, 2022, India became the first country to win a gold medal in lawn bowls during the Commonwealth Games.

After winning three golds at the 2018 Asian ParA games, Indian wrestlers Sakshi Malik, Bishnu Preetam and Deepak Puniya returned to India for the 2022 Commonwealth Games, where they won four silvers and one bronze medal. Meanwhile, India’s Olympic medallists Anshu Malik and Divya Kakran lost out in their respective weight categories.

CWG 2022: List of Indian Women Winners at the Commonwealth Games

1. Mirabai Chanu

Indian weightlifter Mirabai Chanu won India’s first gold medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022 at Birmingham.

2. Bindyarani Devi

Weightlifter Bindyarani Devi won a silver medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

3. Judoka Shushila

India’s experienced judo player Shushila Devi Likhmabam lost the gold medal match to South Africa’s Michaela Witebooi by a solitary 1 point to settle for silver at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham.

4. Harjinder Kaur

India’s Harjinder Singh Kaur won a bronze medal after lifting an impressive total of 212 kg in the women’s 71kg category at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

5. India Women Lawn Bowls Team

India’s lawn bowls women’s team has won the gold medal at the Commonwealth games 2022. It has made the country proud!

6. Tulika Mann

Indian judo player Tulika Mann has to settle with a silver medal in women‘s 78 kg category at the ongoing Commonwealth games.

7. Sakshi Malik

After trailing by four points at one point, Sakshi Malik bounced back to win gold in the women’s 62kg freestyle wrestling event at Birmingham 2022.

8. Anshu Malik

Wrestler Anshu Malik had to settle for silver medal after reaching the women’s 58kg final at CWG 2022

9. Divya Kakran

Divya Kakran defeated Blessing Oborududugu from Nigeria to win bronze in women’ s 68 kg freestyle wrestling at the Commonwealth Games.

10. Bhavina Patel

Star Indian para table tennis player Bhavina Patel has won gold in the women’s singles 3–5 category at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

11. Priyanka Goswami

Priyanka Goswami became the first Indian woman to win a medal at a Commonwealth Games when she won a silver medal in the 10K run.

12. Pooja Gehlot

India’s wrestler Pooja Gehlot defeated Christine Lemofack Letchidjio of Scotland and won the bronze medal at the 2022 Commonwealth Games in Birmingham, England.

13. Pooja Sihag

Pooja Sihag won a bronze medal by beating Australia’s Naomi De Bruk by technical superiority at CWG 2022.

14. Sonalben Manubhai Patel

Sonalben Patel won a Bronze Medal for India at the CWG 2022.

15. Jaismine Lamboria

After losing to England’s Gemma Paise Richardson in the women’s lightweight (60 kg) category, Jaismine Lamboria won bronze medal in boxing.

16. Nitu Ghanghas

India’s boxer Nitu Ghanghas won gold medals at the Commonwealth Games.

17. Nikhat Zareen

Boxer Nikhat Zareen defeated Carly McNally from Northern Ireland in the final match of the women’s 50kg category at the Commonwealth Games 2022

18. Women’s Cricket Team

India’s women’s cricket team lost to Australia by nine runs in the first Commonwealth women’s cricket final but went on to win silver.

19. India women’s hockey team

Won gold medals at three consecutive Olympics India’s women’s hockey team won a bronze medal and ended their game at the Commonwealth Games with a bang.

20. Annu Rani

India’s Annu Rani won a bronze medal in the women’s javelin throw event at the Commonwealth game 2022.

21. Badminton Women’s Double

The young women’s doubles pair of Tressa Jollay and Gayatri Gopi Chand won the bronze medal at the Commonwealth Games 2022.

22. PV Sindhu

PV Sindhu has won another gold medal for India at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham. She beat Canadian Michelle Li 21-15 21-11 in the women’s singles final.
